MPA in Public Policy
Public Policy can be defined as the goal of a government to develop laws and regulations, and the subsequent efforts that government entity makes help communities and individuals move forward. While a general MPA deals with the study of how various public policy is implemented in a government structure, an MPA degree with a concentration in Public Policy more succinctly deals with the analysis of why that public policy is necessary, and what effect it may have on the citizens it serves.
An MPA in Public Policy degree can prepare students for careers in a leadership or any analytical capacity in the public, non-profit, or private sectors. Coursework included in a typical program would include the study of institutional policy-making, statistical analysis, urban planning, and management of public finance, and public policy economics. The study of public policy and policy analysis empowers would-be graduates to help create solutions to day-to-day issues presented in front of government. Even further, many programs attempt to combine the study of policy with conflict resolution studies, including training in proper negotiation practices. Numerous variations of this degree exist today, from the MPA in Public Policy, to the Master of Public Policy. Because of this, some schools have created a combine MPPA – or Master of Public Policy Administration – degree.
